Record the differences, contact the seller in writing and keep every record, then escalate.
Your new bag arrived and the colour, size or material is not what the listing showed. You want to know how to get it put right.
Record the differences, contact the seller in writing, and keep everything. If the seller does not fix it, you can ask for a refund, and a card issuer may help. A bag that does not match its description is not what you agreed to buy.
Make your case clear
- Save the listing as it was when you bought, with its photos and text.
- Photograph the bag, its labels, and the points where it differs, such as size, material, colour or missing parts.
- Write down the differences in a list, with the listing text next to what you received.
- Keep the packaging and the delivery label.
Contact the seller
Send a short message that states the order number, the differences, and what you want: a refund, a replacement or an exchange. Keep the reply. The FTC advises trying to work it out with the seller first.
If the seller refuses
- If you paid by credit card, ask your card issuer about disputing the charge. The CFPB says a charge for goods that are not as agreed may be disputed.
- In the UK, GOV.UK explains that goods must match their description, and a buyer has legal rights when they do not.
- Report scams to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Where this answer stops
Colour variation and small differences are not always grounds for a refund. What you can claim depends on the listing, the seller’s policy and the law where you live. This is general information, not legal advice.

Three more perspectives
Save the listing as a screenshot or PDF at the time you buy, including the title, the photos, the size and the material. Listings change after the sale, and your own copy shows what the seller said.
Compare the bag against the listing in daylight. Colours differ on screens, so judge the material, size, hardware and construction first. A shade difference is less clear-cut than a different material or a missing feature.
Do not remove tags or use the bag while you sort it out. Photograph the bag next to a ruler, and take photos of the labels, stitching and any material or size markings that differ from the listing.
